What should I expect at my first consultation?During your visit, we will perform a thorough evaluation of your condition by collecting details about your medical history, lifestyle, and any symptoms you are experiencing. This information will enable us to identify the root cause of your issues and create an effective treatment plan tailored to your needs.
Once we have reviewed your medical history, we will move on to a physical assessment. This typically involves observing and guiding you through active movements of the affected areas. To ensure your comfort during this process, we may ask you to change into gym clothes. As you perform these movements, we will gently examine and observe the areas causing you discomfort. Based on the insights gathered from your medical history and physical assessment, we will establish a diagnosis and design a personalized treatment plan. This plan may include techniques such as mobilizing the affected area, prescribing specific exercises, providing guidance on home care, posture correction, and ergonomic advice. In some cases, we may also incorporate heat/ice therapy, electrotherapy, strapping, massage, or dry needling to relieve pain and support the healing process. Our goal is to address your condition comprehensively and help you achieve optimal recovery. |
What do I need to bring to my first visit? Please bring the following items only if you have them: Any X-Rays, scans or other tests. Your health fund or pension card (if you have one).

How long is each appointment? At our clinic, we recognize the uniqueness of every individual, which is why we offer extended treatment durations for initial visits, up to 45 minutes, and 30 minutes for each subsequent follow-up visit. This ensures that your Physiotherapist has ample time to conduct a detailed clinical assessment by speaking with you one-on-one. Based on this comprehensive evaluation, we create a personalized treatment plan that is tailored to your specific needs. We prioritize providing undivided attention to our patients, and hence, we focus only on treating one patient at a time, without any overlap.

Can you treat a few areas in the one treatment?Typically, we begin by addressing the most severe area of concern and focus our assessment and treatment efforts on that particular region. Due to time constraints, we may only be able to evaluate and treat a single area. However, if you require treatment for multiple areas, you can schedule an extended session, which will require additional time and incur additional costs. If you're unsure about what to do, please feel free to ask us during your initial evaluation. In cases where the sources of pain are interconnected, such as back pain accompanied by referred pain in the buttocks and legs, or neck and shoulder pain with arm pain, we can treat them during a regular session.

Can I come for only one or two treatments?Certainly. We acknowledge that certain individuals may have differing financial obligations. If you inform your physiotherapist of your ability to attend only one or two sessions, we can provide you with a thorough home program consisting of exercises and self-care techniques for at-home treatments.

Can I use my private health insurance?![]() If you have the appropriate Extra's coverage included in your private health insurance plan, you can request reimbursement for physiotherapy. Our onsite HICAPS facilities will take care of the "gap" fee, which varies depending on your health insurance provider and coverage level. Please remember to bring your health fund card with you. Additionally, we offer credit card and EFTPOS payment options.
Are you a preferred provider? At Boronia Heights Physiotherapy, we are a privately owned clinic that welcomes all health funds. Instead of being a preferred provider for a specific fund, we have chosen to respect our clients' health fund preferences and accept all funds equally.
How much will my health fund cover? |
To determine your entitlements for each Physiotherapy session, it's advisable to contact your health fund directly and inquire about the coverage amounts they offer. This will help you understand the extent of your coverage before scheduling an appointment.

Does Medicare cover physiotherapy?Medicare covers physiotherapy services under the condition that the patient has obtained a multidisciplinary Allied Health Care Plan from their General Practitioner. With this Care Plan, patients may qualify for a maximum of five sessions per calendar year, receiving a rebate of $60.35 per consultation.
Do you bulk bill? |
Our practice does not offer bulk billing services. However, we do accept Allied Health/Medicare referrals from your GP. For consultations, there is a gap fee of $78 for the first consultation and $46 for the follow-up appointments to cover the remaining portion of the consultation fee.

Do physiotherapists provide massage? Our services do not include remedial or relaxation massage. Physiotherapists offer a wide range of treatment options, and while muscle work is one aspect, it is not the only one. If your physiotherapist determines that soft tissue massage is appropriate based on their assessment, it may be included in your treatment plan.
Does it matter if I’m running late? |
Our Physiotherapists strive to maintain punctuality. While we acknowledge that unforeseen circumstances may arise, if you notify us as soon as possible, we will try our best to reschedule your appointment for a later time on the same day, subject to availability. However, in the event that you are running late, it may result in a reduction of the appointment duration to avoid any disruption to other clients' schedules for the day.
What if I need to cancel my appointment? |
In case you're unable to attend your scheduled appointment, kindly ensure that you notify us by phone and cancel your appointment at least 8 hours prior to the scheduled time. This would enable us to offer the slot to someone on our waiting list. Failure to do so may result in a 'no show' or late cancellation fee. We do understand that unforeseen circumstances can arise, such as waking up unwell on the morning of the appointment with less than 8 hours to spare. In such cases, we request you to inform us as soon as possible by calling the clinic.
